After 35 years of helping sick and injured animals Brent Lodge Wildlife hospital is facing the prospect of closure due to lack of funds. The Trustees of the charity have announced that unless significant funds can be raised within the next three weeks, the hospital will be forced to close its doors.
Brent Lodge has been based in Sidlesham for 20 years, and treats about 3,000 sick and injured wild birds, hedgehogs, and other small mammals each year, as well as providing help and advice in response to thousands of phone calls and email queries. The purpose-built hospital, which also has facilities for cleaning and rehabilitating oiled seabirds, regularly receives patients from Portsmouth, Midhurst, and Worthing, as well as from the Chichester and Bognor Regis area.
The charity's only regular income is it's shop in Selsey, which brings in about £3,000 each month. Therefore, Brent Lodge is totally dependent upon voluntary donations from the public for the additional £8,000 needed each month to pay for ongoing costs.
